Underdeveloped Product with Abysmal Support
I purchased the Core on pre-order directly from Norton. I have used Norton products for over twenty years, and they have always performed. The Norton Core is an underdeveloped product, and customer support has been abysmal. It kept locking up during the installation process. After an hour and a half of trying, I called Norton Support. They were able to get me connected after an hour of diagnostics. Then another three hours connecting all the wireless devices (They had me change the wireless password). After installation, there are three remaining unresolved issues, (1) Core intermittently drops the internet connection for no reason. You either have to restart your computer and devices, or you have to unplug the Core and modem and let them boot back up. Norton Support's solution, change my wireless password and another three hours reconnecting all the wireless device to the network. AND THE CONNECTION STILL DROPS! A total waste of time; (2) the ethernet cable connected network printers are not recognized and will not connect to the network. Norton Support's response was to plug them directly into the Core even after I told her that the connections were being used for the two switches in the network and; (3) the PlexMedia Server transmission is so degraded that the video is almost unwatchable. Norton Support refused to assist in this issue. I decided to return the product, and Norton is making this process as onerous as possible. To return a product that I PURCHASED ONLINE directly from Norton, I have to MAIL A PAPER CLAIM FORM TO REQUEST A RMA with a photocopy of the serial number on the bottom of the router along with a copy of the invoice to receive a return label . Seriously, a technology company requires you to process a return with paper forms by mail? I have reconnect my previous router (very time consuming) and, no surprise, the internet stays connected, I have printers, and the PlexMedia Server is transmitting high quality, 4k video. UPDATE 2017 11 06: My support ticket was escalated to resolve the issues I am having, unfortunately the support staff could not get the printers to work as they "are too far away from the router." I have cat5e cables and the longest run is 35 feet, well within the range of the cables. Several times Norton Support talked about wireless printers, and each time I had to correct them that these were ethernet connected printers, so not wireless and not USB. The internet connection drops were fixed with a software update after the original review was written. The update did stop the internet connection from dropping. After being refused assistance in my original call for the PlexMedia Server not working, assistance was provided by Norton Support's Escalation Team. It was an easy fix that did work. The original support technician should have been able to provide the solution. I have once again installed the previous router and everything works as it should. I thought about raising my rating to one two stars since the ticket was escalated and all but the printer issue was resolved. However I rejected the idea as I feel it is the fault of the router and the incompetence of Norton support that the printers do not work. UPDATE: 11/21/2017 Norton processed the return promptly, which was good, but in that process, my previously paid for subscription stopped working. It took the technician almost an hour to get the subscription working again. I am not an IT professional and it will probably take me longer to get the subscription reinstalled on the remaining five devices. Norton has shaken my confidence.
