★☆☆☆☆
Abusive hero, TSTL heroine
This book had so much potential, only for it to not only fall flat in the second half, but for it to fail spectacularly altogether. The moment you realize who VF is, it's like all creativity goes out the window. There's a lot of world building here that's really interesting, and Charlie is a passable character, until she gets into a dress. The moment that happens, "the best thief ever" is completely incompetent. She can't even hear the word "brains" without almost fainting. And the hero is an abusive cad. When Charlie doesn't want to be kept in a gilded cage, he allows another man to almost rape her, then kills him, to prove that she's better off with him. He sets her up to get almost killed, just to prove that he can protect her. It's gross and I'm so utterly disappointed.
