NOT for Keto!!!!
This is why it pays to research before you buy! I was looking at the maple syrup flavored with monkfruit by a different company when this one came up in my feed. I liked that it had better reviews and I read the manufacturer's description so I followed an impulse and bought it. Received it, and yes, it tastes amazing....
BUT, then I started researching the ingredients. The main ingredient is soluble corn fiber... also known as maltodextrin. And while it is low in calories, it does cause an insulin spike and can kick you out of ketosis!
Also, it is highly processed, so not good for anyone trying to eat a more whole foods or a clean diet, and it is definitely not approved for Whole30 or Paleo.
In fact, maltodextrin has been used by food manufacturers since 1999 to increase the fiber in processed foods and as a low calorie sweetener. Maybe this is one of the reasons that all the low calorie foods that are on the market don't seem to have done anything to halt the ever increasing rise of obesity.
Last, in the description that the manufacturer uses it only lists monkfruit as the sweetener. They make all the claims about non GMO, sugar free, gluten free, etc... but they don't mention using maltodextrin as the main ingredient in this product. I find that somewhat deceptive.
I wish I had checked this product out before I bought it, but this was a lesson I needed to learn (again!!!). For anyone who is concerned only with calories, this product does taste fantastic and is low calorie. Not so much for anyone on Keto or a low carb diet. I'm just saying that you should be aware of what you are actually buying when purchasing this syrup and then you can determine if it fits in with your eating plan.
