Ruins the finish on matte black iPhone 7s
Purchased this case in September 2016 for a brand new iPhone 7 (matte black). Loved the case, it did its job and looked good. Fast forward to March 2017, I take the case off for the first time because I wanted to put a different one on. Upon taking this case off, I found that the pattern on the inside of the case left imprint markings on the back of my phone. At first I thought, no big deal, should come off with some water and a microfiber cloth. Nope. I immediately got on the Amazon product page to see if anyone else had experienced something similar. Sure enough, there were others. I scrolled through the reviews and found a few comments about Goo Gone solving the problem. Spoiler alert: I went out and bought Goo Gone and it did not solve the problem.
I contacted Spigen about the matter. They asked me to send pictures so that they could review it for their warranty program. I sent pics, but also explained that my larger point is there is something inherently wrong with a case that will permanently damage the finish on someone's phone. They got back to me and said they would send a replacement case of my choice and give me a refund. They also linked me to some forum that said isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth would get rid of the markings. Spoiler alert: It did not work.
I don't normally write reviews but it is really upsetting to me that Spigen is still selling this product despite being on notice (from many customer reviews and now at least one customer complaint) that it ruins the finish on matte black iPhone 7s. My phone is not leased, I bought it with my hard earned money. I am really upset that this case has permanently damaged the finish on my phone and thus has lowered its resale value. I am a student and always take very good care of my products so that I can later resell them.
Long story short: do not buy this case.
