Nice Printer - One Issue - Poor Support - Very Frusterated - Sending Back
We have two issues, the first is with the unit and the other is with HP support. First, when scanning a document and sending that document to someone via the email function, the email is sent with a 1969 date. The Time stamp on the attachment is also set to that date. There seems to be no way to change this even after hours of online time with support. The support team wishes to blame the email server though not other device that does this same action using the same credentials on the same server have this issue. They also seem to think that the printer gets the date to name the attachment from the email server. I don't think so but it is possible. Other than that, I like the unit and it's capabilities, weight, speed and battery. It's great but I cannot send incorrectly dated emails and attachments. The device should allow the user to set the date or get the date from a network time server like almost every other device out there. Now for support, I'll post the 2nd days transcript so you can see my and their faults to judge for yourself. 8:10 AM  Connecting... 8:10 AM  Connected. I need to know if this is a bad unit and need to return it. 8:17 AM  Mike Lakner: They thoight the problem was with the email server putting to incorrect date on the email but the printer is even naming the scanned file with the incorrect date and that is not coming from the email server. For instance one attachment was named "19700101_Scan_004059.pdf". We have the printer set to prepend the date and append the time to the attachment name. 8:18 AM  Mike Lakner: And other devices send scans through this email server using the same account credentials without having a problem. 8:18 AM  Steve: Okay Mike. Only on the emails and the naming of the scaned email attachments. 9:15 AM  Von: Mike, I am sorry for the delay and I found that this printer does not show the Date and time as we do not have fax feature in it and if the fax feature is not available on the printer it never shows the date and time. 9:16 AM  Von: I am sorry for the inconvenience. 9:17 AM  Mike Lakner: So, what are you sayinmg. This unit will always show the wrong date in emails and the naming for scanned attachments? 9:17 AM  Von: Wait you are using the Application for email right? 9:18 AM  Mike Lakner: No, using the scan menu. There is an option to scan to email. 9:18 AM  Mike Lakner: Do you have an email address so I can send you a copy of what we get? IUf we cannot fix this I will send this unit back. 9:19 AM  Mike Lakner: Actually I'll bring up my email on the screen and show you. 9:19 AM  Von: That what I am asking scan to email is only be possible with the App we have a team who support those issue, I will connect the chat with them ask then that the date and time showing wrong while using scan to email feature. 9:20 AM  Von: They will help you to correct it. 9:20 AM  Mike Lakner: WHat do you mean by that? I need to know within 30 minutes if I need to send this printer back or fix it. The time starts now. 9:24 AM  Ruby: I am sorry to hear you are frustrated. Can you please answer me a questtion. 9:24 AM  Ruby: *question 9:24 AM  Mike Lakner: That is correct. When the scan sends an email, both the email and the attachment are at the beginning of the Epoch (1969 or 1970) 9:24 AM  Mike Lakner: Ask away 9:24 AM  Ruby: When you do the scan to email how are you doing it and are you getting any error messages? 9:25 AM  Mike Lakner: I am getting no errors. I put paper in the device. I press Scan then Email then put in an email address. 9:25 AM  Ruby: okay 9:25 AM  Mike Lakner: Then send. Can I send you a copy of what we get? 9:26 AM  Mike Lakner: Or view my screen and I'll show you. 9:26 AM  Remote Control started by Ruby. 9:26 AM  Ruby: Not necessary. LEt me see yoru screen 9:27 AM  Ruby: where is the chat window 9:27 AM  Mike Lakner: I have 2 screens 9:27 AM  Ruby: Okay.. bring it up please. 9:27 AM  Ruby: wha gtyou get 9:27 AM  Mike Lakner: I keep the chat windows open on the second so I can see while you all are working 9:27 AM  Ruby: okay, can I see what you get please 9:28 AM  Mike Lakner: I had that up. I'll do it again 9:29 AM  Ruby: ok I am not understanding the issue. 9:30 AM  Mike Lakner: I'll keep chat window on second screen so I can see you type. 9:30 AM  Ruby: Okay. But it is scanning correct? I am not sure I understand the issue 9:31 AM  Mike Lakner: Note that the file name is even incorrect. I have it set so that the scanner prepends the date and that is even incorrect so we cannot blame the email server. 9:31 AM  Mike Lakner: It is scanning fine 9:31 AM  Mike Lakner: But the email datetime and the scandatetime are completely worng and unprofessional. We cannot and will not use it that way. 9:31 AM  Ruby: wha tsi the 9:32 AM  Ruby: Thank you so much. I must apologize to you. They sent you to cloud adn this is not a cloud issue. One moment please. 9:32 AM  Mike Lakner: Timer is still ticking 9:32 AM  Remote Control by Ruby stopped. 9:32 AM  Ruby: I will get you back to technical support 9:32 AM  Mike Lakner: I send this back in 20 minutes now 9:33 AM  Transferring session to another technician... 9:33 AM  Support session established with Dean. 9:33 AM  Dean: Welcome to HP Customer Support & Services for Imaging & Printing Group. My name is Dean. Please give me a minute while I review your problem description details. 9:35 AM  Dean: Hi Mike, could you please elaborate the issue? 9:37 AM  Mike Lakner: Ok but this will be the last time and in 19 minutes I close this chat and send this mess back. When we use the Scan to Email option from the printer it sends the email with the incorrect (start of epoch / 1970) date and time. The scan (attachment / file name) is also named with the same incorrect time so it is not the email server. We also use the same email server and credentials with other devices and do not have this problem. No one can find how to set the date/time or set up an time server. 9:37 AM  Dean: Are we still connected? 9:38 AM  Mike Lakner: We work in a time sensitive business and cannot send things to clients with an incorrect and highly unprofessional date time. 9:39 AM  Dean: Mike, the issue is that when you scan to email the date and time on the email is incorrect right? 9:39 AM  Dean: In HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer? 9:39 AM  Mike Lakner: The question I keep asking before everyone looks and says "wow, cannot find it" is if all these units are like this or just this one. Yes it is. Would you like to see my screen? 9:39 AM  Mike Lakner: Yes, that is the issue. 9:40 AM  Mike Lakner: We have 13 minutes to fix this then it's no longer worth my time. 9:40 AM  Dean: Mike, we might have to find the exact point of failure so it may take time. 9:41 AM  Mike Lakner: I have spent hours. We have 13 minutes. 9:41 AM  Mike Lakner: 12 now 9:41 AM  Dean: Please let me know if the time on the printer is fine? 9:41 AM  Mike Lakner: Back to my question, do they all do this or just this unit? 9:41 AM  Mike Lakner: Yes 9:41 AM  Dean: Okay, please allow me a few. 9:43 AM  Dean: Mike, is the date and time on your computer is fine? 9:44 AM  Mike Lakner: Yes, the printer is not connected to my computer other than accessing it via the web interface. This unit is to be used by a traveling salesman and needs to work independently of a computer. 9:45 AM  Mike Lakner: Scanning from the screen on the printer has nothing to do with the computer. 9:45 AM  Mike Lakner: Unless I need to connect it one time to set that date. That would be poorly designed. 9:47 AM  Dean: Well Mike, if the date and time on the printer is set correctly then it would not be the issue with the printer. 9:47 AM  Dean: It might be the email that you are using for scan to email process., 9:48 AM  Mike Lakner: That is an obvious statement. But I connected it to my computer and the results are the same incorrect date. 9:48 AM  Mike Lakner: No, I have sent it to multiple emails and as previously stated, other devices use the same emil. It's the printer 9:48 AM  Mike Lakner: The printer even puts the wrong date on the file name for the attachment... as I have previously stated 9:49 AM  Mike Lakner: 4 minutes left. 9:49 AM  Mike Lakner: Back to my question. Do they all do this or is this a failing unit. Said another way, do I try another one of these or buy another product? 9:50 AM  Dean: Mike, the unit is fine. 9:51 AM  Dean: Its just the configuration in your email settings. 9:51 AM  Dean: Which is creating issues. 9:51 AM  Mike Lakner: The email settings of the printer? 9:52 AM  Dean: Your email id/. 9:52 AM  Mike Lakner: No it's not. You would know that if you had read the case or this dialog. 9:53 AM  Mike Lakner: The printer does not get the date from my email server so that it can figure out how to name a file that it is preparing to send to that email server. 9:53 AM  Mike Lakner: Time is up. I'll send the unit back along with a review and copy of this chat. 9:54 AM  Saving chat transcript 9:54 AM  Mike Lakner: Any last words? 9:55 AM  Dean: Well, i would still say the issue is with the email settings and not with the unit if the date and time on it is fine. 9:55 AM  Mike Lakner: Have you not read anything? There is no date and time on the unit. None and noone can find it. None of your technicians. Not one. Do you read the case? 9:56 AM  Dean: You earlier said that the printer date and time is correct right? 9:57 AM  Mike Lakner: You asked about the computer date and time. The computer is fine. The printer is wrong. Each and every time. 9:57 AM  Mike Lakner: "9:43 AM  Dean: Mike, is the date and time on your computer is fine?" 9:58 AM  Mike Lakner: Are we done? 9:59 AM  Saving chat transcript 10:00 AM  Mike Lakner: You have quit chatting so I guess we are done. I wish the best for you and yours. 10:00 AM  Saving chat transcript
