So very dissapointed...what just happened?
I couldn't bear to give this book 1 star because Kresley is my ALL TIME FAVORITE AUTHOR....no joke....I loved EVERY one of her other books including her Arcana series....but this book....OK...I KNOW this is supposed to be a "stepping stone" for future events but the problem is...it steps NOWHERE. Josephine and Rune...I just didn't "feel' anything with these two. Rune...who's what like 11,000 years old has "commitment" issues because of his "younger" years....really can the brain even HOLD that many years of memories immortal or not? Josephine just comes off at ungrateful and self centered. I couldn't get over that she was only 13yrs old doing all she was doing and speaking so disrespectfully to a woman only trying to be friendly. Also, I thought once you hit your immortality you don't change....so how was it she was able to "grow" into womanhood years? The "romance" between these two was stale as week old bread. Their story just draaaaaaaaagged out...not kidding. At 55% of the book I was like OK...SURELY this boring-ness will be made up during the second half....NOT. The confrontation at the end...just well....wasn't one. I don't get the point...in fact, I don't get the point of this book at all....except to meet the Bringer of Doom characters...and really...they don't seem to be anything much different or special...other than they are just really old....and a couple seem to have some serious mojo power. I'm starting to worry, however because many past issues have still yet to be resolved, and yet more are being introduced. For example: When are the Wroth brothers going to retrieve their sisters or are we to assume they already did? What is Dorada (Queen of Gold/or Evil) going to do with Lothaire's book of debts? Where did the woman/mummy even go? What is in the %$#$^* freakin well already???? I've been dying to know this for YEARS now...and it is mentioned in passing in this current book...sounded like whatever is in there is something to behold....good or evil...who knows. What about Furie...still sucking in water? What about Ruby? Why such "mysterious" interest in her and what powers she "has"? I have faith that Kresley has it all worked/planned out...and she will tie up everything in the future...however this story will NOT get anywhere if this kind of book is ever a repeat....I just felt this book could have been a "novella" Josephine and Rune were just...so conflicted and not even in a "challenging" way...there didn't seem to be any battle to "win" her over...she just fell in "love" with him, well, just to do so I guess cause I really saw no reason for her to do so, and same for him, as if they had nothing else better to do....and I mean it was just like that. So now we have to sit for almost another year....and I swear I just want to cry over it all at this point....I was going to save it for xmas weekend as a present to myself but like a kid I just HAD to peek....I'm glad I didn't wait, otherwise I would have spent Christmas day feeling like a kid who got a pair of checkered socks instead of an Ipad.
