Caused seizure. Stay away.
I have been using nitenpyram for years to kill fleas on my cats after it was recommended to me by a veterinarian. I never had any issues. This was my first time using this brand. Within 30-45 minutes of administering this pill, my cat went into a violent seizure lasting more than 10 minutes (status epilepticus). I rushed her the animal hospital and they were able to administer an anti seizure medication relatively fast which stopped her seizure. She has never had a seizure before and has been relatively healthy her while life. Her blood work looked phenomenal. Most seizures that last 2-3 minutrs are usually harmless and an animal will typically recover fairly quickly, but this seizure lasted a very long time and she continued to have them periodically for the next 7 hrs requiring more anti seizure medication. When a seizure last for longer then 5 minutes, brain damage and organ failure can occur. It’s been 3 days since administration and there is some my kitty is slowly improving. She is still very tired and having pretty severe coordination issues but I’m hopeful that she will continue to improve. It’s been a stressful time. We almost lost her and I’m not sure she’ll ever be the same. I wished I had never purchased this product. It says it’s FDA approved, but obviously, none of this matters. There was also a $260 emergency vet bill and then another $940 ICU vet bill. If you care about your fur baby and your wallet. Just stay away from this product. I’d rather pick the fleas off of her one by one than to put her through this.
