"Brilliance" shows anything but brilliance! (spoiler free review)
I just skimmed the reviews before getting into this novel and based on the high ratings and the "fresh and never been done before!" statements made I was enthusiastic about it...I barely made a dent in it before I realised that everything in this book has already been done before, and done much better.
The author goes on for pages (literally) rambling on and on about nothing important, there is a scene where one of the characters goes into an old warehouse for a meeting and he spends about 5 pages talking about the inside of the warehouse...this is painfully the dominant direction the book takes after this and I hate to say it but I had to force myself to finish it to the miserable, predictable end.
There is nothing new or fresh here and it's just a step by step retread of the major conspiracy theories floating around, there is virtually no character development or any exploration of the exciting premise of normal humans living with abnormal ones, no exploration of social isssues, no talk of the implications of that except to keep saying over and over that "the world changed/there's a war coming/the end of the world is near" (in case we forget)...if you don't want to be bored out of your mind, then avoid this book at all costs.
