Unless you're sprouting huge seeds like peas or beans, this thing is useless. I sprout basil, kale, spinach, chard, broccoli, arugula and several others, none of which work because the grate holes are massive. They're so large, in fact, that even large red winter wheat berries fall through. It was a complete waste of money and does not function as described. Incidentally, the manufacturer emailed me to ensure I was pleased with the product. I told them no and explained why. They said they recommend lining the grate with paper towels or gauze because they know the holes are too big. Why not put that in the description?? I bought this so I *wouldn't* have to add a bunch of extra refuse into the landfill, NOT to create more while using a useless hunk of plastic. Sticking with jars and mesh lids is definitely best if you plan to sprout anything smaller than a pea.
