Projected "time-only" never updates - Really?
When my cheapo Oregon Scientific Atomic Projector clock finally stopped projecting numbers clearly (after almost 10 years, not bad, I guess), I went in search of something better. What was wrong with the O.S.? Not much, except its controls were almost indecipherable to set the alarm. Hoped to reproduce its great qualities and get a proper alarm clock to boot. After much comparison shopping (and reading the manuals...cuz that's what I do...) here's what I experienced with the La Crosse 616-146: Pros: Nice, large display with lots of indicators, fairly easy to figure out. Easy setup Convenient Projection modes: Time only, Time/Temp, Temp only Pleasant surprise: USB charger for my iPod Meh: Projected numbers are small, but bright. Much smaller than the Oregon Scientific I was replacing LCD display is so bright (even on dim setting), the room is well-lit just by the clock. Really didn't want a night light Cons: Project Time Only (the reason I bought this clock - really don't care about temperature in the middle of the night) DOESN'T UPDATE TIME. Really. Had a back-and-forth with LaCrosse on this point - they confirmed: Time-only function only displays the *time when you first project it* - you have to fiddle with the thing (touch the snooze, whatever) to get the updated time on the projector. Backlight dimmer affects projected time brightness as well. Very disappointed to pay $20 more just for the function that doesn't work. I assured LaCrosse I would let the community know of their oversight in failing to publish this weird behavior should anyone else want to pay more for this function. Returned to Amazon, going back to Oregon Scientific.
