I'm appalled at the characters' behaviors and attitudes in these books! My 6-year-old daughter (1st grade) has been starting to read chapter books. She wanted me to buy some for her and recognized the Junie B. Jones books from her school's library. She started reading the first one and we had to quickly stop because of the terrible language, disrespect and behavior of the children in these books. Snotty language, treating other children terribly, mouthing off to adults, teasing, ramming their heads into the stomachs of other children like a bull. It's challenging enough to teach children proper behavior, respect, kindness and consideration... these books are examples of everything I don't want my child to be.
