Motor Burned out After Four Months
First of all, I have been sewing for over fifty years and personally own three different machines - for different projects. When I first got the Singer heavy duty machine, I loved it. Did everything the description said it would. I found it easy to use, not particularly noisy and one of my first projects was to sew a fabric binding around the edges of a jute rug. It did a stellar job!! Two weeks ago I started a halloween costume for my granddaughter, and in the process of sewing on appliques with this machine, the motor burned out. I was using the zig-zag stitch and ironically I was sewing on taffeta. Hoping that somehow the motor had just over heated and would revive itself (like my vacuum cleaner) I took it to a repair shop where the repair guy said the machine was shot. When I expressed dismay, concern, etc. and the fact that I had another singer that was over 15 years old and still worked, he told me that essentially there not longer is a singer company, that this machine was made in China. When I told him the machine was only 4 months old, he said, "If a machine is going to burn out, it will do it soon after you began to use it." So there you have it. Great machine for 4 months. Useless bunch of plastic and metal now. I'm not going to mess with trying to get some satisfaction from this purchase. Alas didn't send in the warrantee card because I've never had warantee problems with a machine in the past. I've got a feeling that buying this machine is much like purchasing a lottery ticket. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't but do you want to throw your money away on a chance.
