A Knife for Guys Who Don't Know Knives
Guys, buy something mid-priced from Cold Steel, or CRKT, or Spyderco, or really step it up and get an Emerson, Benchmade, or Zero Tolerance (Kershaw/Kai cutlery). Any EDC knife from CRKT or SOG or Gerber or especially Spyderco or Cold Steel will just beat this all to hell. A month ago I was reading one of those huge Survival Life posts about how this "Hoffman-Richter" knife (aka "Chin and Yang") took years to develop, had been reviewed by all the "knife experts" out there during development, etc. etc., etc., and I turned it down then at $19.95. Knife makers went offshore for years to Seki City, Japan, and their steel was excellent, then to Taiwan, and even some of that was good; but this is mainland China crap steel. I wouldn't use this for anything but a throwaway, and you can bet they're paying a few dollars a unit for this POS. Remember Frost Cutlery on late night TV a few years ago, for folders in bulk that worked out to $4-$5 a unit? Here you go, except Frost had better steel. BTW, there are only two manufacturers that know how to make a decent knife out of 440, and that's SOG with their 440A fixed blades, and Randall with their stainless fixed blades. (The last SS Randall I had just sold for $600, and many go for more.) I've owned hundreds of blades and still have a pile of factory and custom knives that would take a dump truck to move, so for what that's worth, if you see a cheap knife made out of 440C just run; do some minimal research and get yourself a decent $45-$60 EDC folder somewhere else.
