★☆☆☆☆
Passable if constantly connected to Wi-Fi, horrible if no internet available.
Amazon Fire Kids tablets were bought as a gift for children's birthdays. Tablet cannot play downloaded movies inside Freeplay, Tablet cannot work completely offline, needs to be connected to Wi-Fi every 3-4 days to "update" and "re-acquire license". Freeplay does not load "Read to Me" books when not connected to Wi-Fi even after they've already been downloaded. Games downloaded outside of Freeplay do not load inside of Freeplay. Age recommendations are poor, a 3-year old should not have vampire books recommended for them while a 6-year old isn't all that interested in Baby's First Words. Since Tablets were bought explicitly as a tool for long duration trips for children in areas where Wi-Fi is not available (Grandma's house, for example) they are completely useless. Freeplay is poorly put together and poorly managed. There is little to no customization for age or individual tastes. There isn't even the ability to lock the screen on while watching videos, the most basic of requirements in a kids tablet. Currently the tablet is only good for day trips, and even then only with adult supervision since the tablet has to be used outside of the Freeplay environment. There are many other options out there for kids tablets, most of them are better choices than this poorly thought out and poorly implemented piece of junk.
