I Hoped for Wonderful but Instead Wondered Why
I usually have a pretty good intuition about if I’m going to like a movie or not so I didn’t bother seeing this in the theater. After tons of hype for this I bought it for $3 during Black Friday and didn’t get around to watching until now. 20 minutes in I was ready to shut it off. The acting is ok to bad as are the computer graphics. Continuing past that, it’s just not that interesting. It tries to be exciting, gripping, funny, and charming but it isn’t. It just falls flat. The main actors do an ok job but the script isn’t very good. Even good actors can look bad with a weak story and uninspired direction. I like most of the superhero films and the best ones treat the movie realistically and seriously and only add superhero elements. The worst just try too hard to entertain. This one tries too hard. I made it an hour in and then shut it off. That’s more than enough time to grab and impress but it didn’t.
I’ve seen a disturbing trend of movie review sites overhyping movies to get more people to buy a ticket and I’m guessing the same happened here. I didn’t see anything in an hour that was worth half of what I heard. This will pass the time for most but won’t leave much to remember or care about. Pass if you require more from a film than graphics and desperate attempts to impress you.
*Personal Note* I have no problem with strong females but Hollywood proves time and time again that they don’t know what a strong woman is. Usually they just have the woman act like a man and beat up a bunch of men to show how strong they are. They never beat up other women, always men and they’re usually emotionless and unrealistically overpowered. They also bring down men at the same time by making them weak and foolish. Women can still be soft, emotional, feminine and strong. WW wasn’t as bad as I feared and Diana was more balanced than usual but there were times when they just couldn’t help themselves. Men are strong, virtuous and courageous too and don’t need to be torn down just to lift women up. Many men have sacrificed their lives for God, family and country and that should never be minimized. Both men and women can show their good and bad sides as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Not everything has to be politicized or made to satisfy activist groups. Just let the natural differences of both be seen at their best and worst. Just be real.
