What a dissappointment. . . QC issues and horrible motion blur while gaming.
This review is aimed towards those who want to use this as a gaming monitor. I currently have an Asus MG278Q, and while it is an excellent monitor, the TN panel left me longing for the rich colors of my old LG IPS monitor. Along came the Acer Nitro XV272U and I was instantly hyped. 1440p 144Hz 1ms Freesync compatible, all with an IPS panel at $450? Sold. Then it arrived, and man what a let down. First the positives. Color reproduction was excellent and definitely more vibrant/accurate than my Asus. The stand is a decent build, made from metal and easy to adjust. However that's about it in terms of positives. Now the first big glaring issue was the screen. About a quarter of an inch of the acreen along the top and sides of the monitor is not being utilized. Its simply a black bar. I am still not sure if this was intentional or a mistake on part of QC, because the black bar clearly apart of the screen. However when I measured the actual viewable screen, it did measure 27" diagonally. This leads me to believe the black space was intentional and meant to mimic the frame however it is an odd design choice and doesn't look good. The biggest deal breaker though was when it came to gaming. If you are playing any kind of fast paced action game or shooter the motion blur is unbearable. Its so disappointing because the colors are beautiful. It doesn't matter though because every time you turn the world blurs horribly. I realized that the advertised 1ms response time was only active while using the VBR setting in the monitors OSD. When VBR is turned on Freesync is deactivated, the entire screen dims and a terrible strobe effect begins, destroying image quality and my eyes. The kicker is that it doesn't even reduce the motion blur! I am not sure what the response time is without VBR but I can only imagine its 10ms if not more because I never noticed blur while gaming on my 5ms monitor. Now if you were only going to play Slime Rancher, Civilization and other slower paced causal games, or simply use this monitor for video/photo editing, you may come away satisfied. However if your going to be playing fast paced action games like Apex Legends, CS:GO or DOOM, the motion blur is going to be unbearable and really diminish not only the visual enjoyment but your gaming skill as well.
