★☆☆☆☆
Parody of Regency
Since the author has at least 20 other published books, I'm guessing this book was intended to be a parody or was a grand experiment that failed. I've never read this author before, so I cannot say for sure. The story has every cliche possible: the second son who reluctantly becomes earl after the death of an older brother, the need for a marriage to get an heir, the ballroom full of dull debutantes, the accidental compromise of Blair, I mean Claire. That's just in the first chapter or two! It's tongue in cheek all over the place. Idioms and language are modern day, not regency time. That also is annoying. What was the author thinking? I'd really love to know!
