This wire is NOT 18 gauge
I've had this for some time, it says 18AWG right on it and I never had reason to suspect that wasn't the case. Recently, I used it for a higher amperage project, and I noticed the voltage drop across the cable was more than 3 times what one would expect from an 18 gauge cable. So I measured the cross section with a micrometer, it came out to 0.75mm, much lower than the > 1mm expected for 18 gauge stranded wire. Just to verify, I unrolled what I had left and measured it at 22 meters, and measured the resistance through the entire length of both strands, 44m total, at 3.0 ohms. To be generous, I rounded up to 50m which works out to 60 ohms per kilometer. This is the expected resistance of 22-23 gauge wire, meaning it contains less than 30% the expected copper of an 18 gauge wire. Selling this wire as 18 gauge wire is outright fraud, and potentially dangerous for anybody using it expecting it to be actual 18 gauge wire. I am VERY unhappy with this purchase, and amazon would do well to cease sales of this product and products from this manufacturer.
Oh, and for those who prefer visuals, I've also uploaded a product photo to show a comparison with actual 18 gauge wire.
