I bought this at Lowes hoping that it would be a decent bird feeder. It functions as a bird feeder would and the squirrel-deterrent mechanism does function. There is an inner tube that stores the seeds with tiny feeding tray attached to the bottom and an outer cage that sits over that so that the seeds get covered if weight from a squirrel is applied to the outer cage. However, so that the outer cage moves freely, they left a large gap on the bottom (see photo), and all the seeds fall through the gap onto the ground while the birds are feeding. There were so many seeds on the ground that ants swarmed the area and many of the seeds started to grow. To try to fix the problem, I duct taped a piece of plastic to the bottom. When the feeder ran out of seeds, I took off the plastic bottom to see how many seeds would have fallen, I was surprised! I would say a quarter of what was put into the feeder ends up on the ground (see photos), which is why the feeder ran out of seed every two days. I've been so disappointed with this feeder, they could have easily fixed their design flaw by enlarging the inner feeding tray so that seeds can't escape. This feeder is junk.
