Or, 374 page commercial for kid therapies
I really had high hopes for this book. It seemed to have a lot of positive reviews but now i'm thinking they are either fake, or they are all coming from therapists who want validation for their work.
I was expecting a how-to book. Much of the book covers diagnosing some physical medical problem, the therapy solution you want to look for, and what that therapist may want to know, and you take it from there. If you are thinking about this book, well, you are probably already aware of what the specific problem is.
There aren't many "food chain examples". An example of a food chain might be to make a jump from crackers to thin quesadillas In theory, I guess that's an agreeable jump. But the book mentions over and over how kids may gag or vomit, but other than telling the parent the usual, (let them play, paint with it, allow them to help cook and shop for it) the book doesn't EXPLICITLY tell you how to move your child from gagging or outright vomiting at a new food touching their lips to willingly giving a new food an honest try. It talks about therapists working with kids in the case studies, but there aren't any specific techniques mentioned save the usual vague ones I listed above. So, I feel like I wouldn't in good conscience recommend this book to anyone who seriously wanted some guidance on what to do at home (that they haven't already read many times before). Basically, if you were considering therapy, this might be a good book to get an idea what you might need to prepare for ahead of time. So, I'll give it 2 stars for that.
