Absolutely the LAST apple product I will ever purchase.
Imagine buying a new car and finding out no gas pumps will fit your new ride.
Imagine buying a new fishing rod and finding out you can't use your existing fishing line or any of your lures with it.
That's essentially what Apple is doing to you if you buy their device.
You must now invest in new charging cables for your home. For your car. For your spouse's car. Oh, and one for travel too.
Want to hook an external hard drive up to your new ipad? Yup, gotta buy a $70+ adaptor for that because apple has locked you out.
I've owned this ipad mini for all of 5 minutes and have come to the first Apple hurdle: No cable to connect it to my Apple desktop or Macbook. The cable they supply fits neither machine. Heck, it doesn't fit my iPhone either!
Which brings me to the gist of my review: I've been an Apple customer for probably close to 25 years but at the same time I purchased this ipad I also bought my first Android device (tablet) to begin the changeover. For the short term I'm a bit anchored to Apple through work (graphics) but find Apple products and policies so overbearing that I'm over the coolaid hype and have begun the switch back to Android.
For example; this cable that isn't supplied. Gotta buy more horribly overpriced/coolaid accompanying items.
Seriously Apple?
Or, wanting to play music in itunes that Apple - for whatever reason - feels like ghosting that day.
Or the inability to remove U2 music from my itunes. For over a decade. FFS apple, if I delete them 100x, I don't want them!
Or, wanting to download my photos and store on my external HD, in .jpg format - and not some Apple invented proprietary format.
Or, the never-ending parade of asking me for passwords. Accept it once, and that's my password until I say it needs to be changed. Not you.
Or, trying to charge/connect my device with a "non Apple authorized" cord. Sometimes it works, sometimes it works if I unlock my phone, and sometimes it won't work at all. Just depends. Really Apple?
Or, trying to get virtually ANY Garmin product to play nice with Apple:
Ride a bike and use a Garmin product? Problem.
Own a boat and use a Garmin product? Problem.
Own a motorcycle and use GPX files to navigate offroad? Problem.
The list goes on an on. Just one frustrating interface after another.
The hours of frustration that Apple has forced me to endure in the last few years are what's making me switch. This iPad will be phased out with the tablet over the coming year. My Macbook is a few years old and needs updating but won't be updated with a Mac product, and neither will the Imac or my iPhone. I'm just so over the frustration.
The good thing I guess is that I own a bunch of Apple stock. So all you 16-year old Coolaid drinkers will be helping me as I switch to Android.
Goodbye Apple. It's hasn't been fun.
