Read This Review Before Buying the Snugride 40 - You'll Thank Me Later
I like the Graco Snugride baby car seats and the SnugRide 40 sounds like a great idea: a car seat you can use with your baby up to 40 pounds. Sounds great except for two big drawbacks.
1. Both the average baby girl and boy will reach the 35 inch maximum height limit for the Snugride 40 well before they reach 40 pounds. In fact, on average, a baby at around 30-31 pounds will reach the max height limit (see my height/weight chart image). So why buy the Snugride 40 when you’re never going to get to the max weight limit?
2. One of the big advantages of a removable car seat is taking the seat out while the baby is sleeping and either carrying the seat or snapping into a stroller such as the Snugrider Elite Stroller (a must buy if you own a Snugride) Graco Snugrider Elite Stroller and Car Seat Carrier, Black 2015. But the Snugride 40 is 9.6 pounds compared to 7.5 pounds for the Snugride 35 (weight without the base). That may not seem like a big weight difference, but trust me, it is when you’re constantly lifting the SnugRide with baby in and out of the car. It gets really heavy, fast.
So save yourself some weight and money ($44 cheaper than the Snugride 40) and buy the SnugRide 35 Click Connect. Make sure to get the 35 Click Connect. Both the Snugride 35 Classic Connect and Snugride 35 LX are 9.6 pounds. Amazon lists the incorrect weight for both these models on their website.
What’s the difference between the Snug ride 35 vs 35 LX?
The LX model offers more “luxury” padding and at the cost of added weight (2 pounds) and $$$. I’d skip the LX version.
What’s the difference between the Classic Connect and Click Connect?
Other than an audible “click” when attaching the Click Connect to the base there’s not too much difference between the two systems. Just remember they’re not interchangeable (in other words Click Connect car seats only work with Click Connect strollers, and Classic Connect works only with Classic Connect accessories). Another distinction is that the Snugride 35 Classic Connect is 9.6 pounds vs. 7.5 pounds for the Snugride 35 Click Connect.
Bottom Line: If you like the Graco style car seat buy the Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 Infant Car Seat, Gotham.
