Broken product, broken warranty
I bought this 6 months back. It no longer powers on, which is really not what I would expect for something costing over three hundred dollars and used occasionally. (It worked well while it worked.) (Spoiler: The Miele warranty is not real. Miele and their "authorized dealers" simply push responsibility on to each other.) When I called Miele technical support they told me to go to their authorized dealer: Crown services in Morningside Heights, NYC. When I took it to Crown, they told me about I had to pay a $40 checking fee, and then if there were costly repairs they could try to get those covered by Miele. This made no sense to me given that Miele offers a 1 year warranty. I called Miele technical support, and after some fairly awkward negotiations over the phone, Crown agreed to take my vacuum without my paying. They said they'll call in a day or two to tell me what the problem is. I called three days later, and they repeated the same thing, with basically no guarantee of when they will even look at it, let alone repair it. I called Miele once more, and they said that it's basically between me and Crown and they have nothing to do with it; there is no guarantee of a date by which the vacuum will be repaired, nor can they replace it for me. In short, Miele and their authorized dealers treat their customers terribly, besides the fact that their product didn't work for me. Wonder if and when I'll get my vacuum back, and how long it'll work before breaking down again, probably a month after the so-called warranty expires. Update: Another week and I have no word from the repair shop, and their two phone numbers are both unreachable. What a nightmare.
