It is difficult to believe that the writer who created Hannibal Lecter wrote this book or that his publisher would release it to the public. All the things that Harris excelled at in Silence of the Lambs such as dynamic tension between the characters, a rapid plot, and vivid characterization are completely missing in this book. The over-all effect is jumpy and nervous, moving from present to past tense, Miami to Colombia, one group of evil-mongers to another without clarity. Did he think he was writing a screenplay and simply sketching out his ideas for someone else to fill in? This reader was never sure what his purpose was. The only element of horror in this book is the initial Kindle price. Buyer beware.
