I bought this book for my daughter who is about to enter kindergarten. She has, up to this point, been excited about going into kindergarten and has not expressed any fear or anxiety. While I can appreciate the sarcasm implied with the contrast between the text and the looks on the boy's face in the illustrations, take note: if your kid is not fearful about going into kindergarten, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK TO THEM! The boy in the story is scared, nervous and worried about going to school and, if your child is otherwise excited about and looking forward to this next milestone in their life, you might as well not even put the idea in their head that they should be nervous or worried about things to come in kindergarten. My daughter seemed confused as to why the boy was so terrified and when I realized this, I put the book down and moved on to something else!
