The case LEAKED! DESTROYED my iPhone! Avoid this case!
Pros: 1) It is by far the best looking/slimmest waterproof iPhone5 case. 2) Limited water contact (no moving around/no extended time periods) seems to be fine 3) After a website problem when this case launched (where they didn't even respond for a month), their support has been very good 4) Waterproof headphone adapter is smart and innovative (although mine was broken) Cons: 1) After passing the water test, the case LEAKED in real world conditions (swimming around), destroying my iPhone 2) Spacer on top makes a bubble on the top ~10% of the screen, requiring more pressure to press down 3) Rainbowing/oil effect where the plastic of the case comes in contact with the iPhone screen 4) Makes vibrations/noise from the back of the case if the volume is ~75% or higher 5) High price tag So I thought that it would be cool to have a waterproof case for my phone, thinking, hey, it could double as a waterproof camera, how convenient! I'm actually saving money! Boy was I wrong. Right when I got the case I did the water test, submersing the empty case in to a bucket of water for a little over an hour, the insides stayed dry. Newly confident with my case I plopped in my iPhone 5 to see how it performed in the shower.. not bad, putting it in the corner to amplify the sound worked great and most important of all.. the iPhone stayed dry. However, after a day or two I began to notice some big flaws with the case. First, like many people have mentioned, the spacer on the top of the phone by the camera/speaker makes it so the top ~10% of the iPhone screen takes more pressure to press down. It's not a lot of pressure, but it's annoying since you're used to pretty much no pressure on the rest of the screen. Second, there started to be some rainbowing/oil distortion on the center of the screen. On a closer examination it looks like it's where the plastic screen came in actual contact with the iPhone screen. It goes away if not in contact with the screen, but most of the time some of it was touching, making an ugly spot in the center of the phone. These defects were annoying, but still not a total deal killer for me since they were more cosmetic issues and up to that point the main purpose of the case (waterproof) seemed to be fine. So still confident in the case I took it with me on my trip to Hawaii, huge mistake. When I was swimming around taking pictures/videos (in my hotel's pool, not even the ocean yet!) I noticed my iPhone screen went black. I jumped out of the pool and on closer examination I was horrified to find out that there was water in the case! I tried to dry off my iPhone but after I brought in to the Apple store they confirmed my horrors, the iPhone was dead. No way to get the data through normal methods. Could only offer a refurbished replacement for $250. Nightmare complete. CONCLUSION: So ask yourself, do you really need to drop $80 on this "waterproof" case? Does your phone really need to be waterproof? What if something goes wrong and it leaks... destroying your phone like it did to mine? Do the benefits of having your phone waterproof outweigh the risks of testing your luck with this case? IMHO, hell no. Want to take pics/vids in water? Get a waterproof camera, they are so cheap now. Want to listen to music in the shower? You really can't find a place just outside the shower to blast music (use walls as amplifiers)? Want to use your phone at the beach? People do this all the time without a waterproof case, just be careful and put it away in your bag when you aren't using it. Also, everybody who buys this case should know this: if your phone gets wet, dry it off immediately, leave it turned off, and submerse it completely in a bowl of rice overnight (better if you remove the battery, but honestly, most won't have the right tools immediately available). If possible, immediately book an appointment with an Apple "genius" so they can help save your phone.
