Unsuitable for it's intended use.
My girlfriend bought this for me as a 2014 Christmas present as I have been drinking much more tea lately and she wanted me to have a nice tea kettle for myself. Most of my cookware is stainless steel, of the tri-clad variety, used on an induction cook top, so I made sure I selected a kettle specified as stainless steel. Initially I was pleased with both it's aesthetics and performance, using it 2 to 4 times a week, and emptying it of water after each use.
I just re-checked this product's description before writing this review to confirm it was (allegedly) stainless steel (and yes, that's what the Amazon description states) because by late summer of 2015 the kettle had developed a significant rust spot approximately 1 to 1-1/2 inch in diameter on the interior which had PERFORATED THE SIDE WALL rendering the kettle useless.
I've dealt with various grades of stainless steel in the chemical processing industry much of my working life - mostly ASTM A-304 & 316 grade - and know it requires fairly nasty materials to inflict this amount and type of damage to quality stainless steel and in a relatively short time. Since this kettle was only subjected to boiling tap water (and not even on a daily basis) - a use for which it is supposedly designed and sold - I can only presume it's material of construction is NOT a quality grade of stainless steel and NOT suitable for it's intended use.
On that basis I would not recommend the purchase of this item.Primula Avalon Whistling Tea Kettle, 2.5-Quart, Brushed Stainless Steel
