This e collar WAS great. It helped a lot with training our puppy. He is a hunting breed and when he gets on a smell there was no getting his attention. The beep in his ear was just enough to break his concentration and get him to listen to our commands. That is until the collar wore down. The cheap collar lost its structure and started folding. This caused the actual electronic component of this collar to easily slip off. This is probably because of how you have to separate them in order to charge it. This is a major design flaw. I am disappointed that we can not use this anymore. I suppose if this flaw was fixed I would consider buying the upgrade. ***UPDATE*** After I wrote this review I was contacted by the company. They stated that the collar and device had been updated and fixed and offered me a brand new one for free. I was thrilled! Great customer service! Everything seemed great, we got the new collar and it is now made of a durable plastic material. This solved the problem of the folding nylon collar. The actual device that sits on your dogs neck is smaller now too. Both great! The remote has been changed and it now has separate buttons for beep, vibrate and shock. I loved this feature. What I don’t love about the remote is that you control the intensity of the vibration and shock with a dial which is on the corner of the remote. It is VERY easy to accidentally adjust this dial in your pocket. So you MUST double check that it hasn’t moved before you use it. This is a flaw but not a deal breaker. What is a deal breaker though is the fact that this new collar has virtually no range. It says 300 yards. NO WAY. The old collar definitely had a better range on it. It covered our whole yard. This one isn’t even half of that. For this reason I can’t change my rating. We will probably be purchasing a more expensive e collar from another brand. I guess unfortunately in this case you get what you pay for and no more.
