Review for the Snoo with the SNOO Sleep Sack
The Snoo came highly recommended to us by good friends. It was expensive, however since Happiest Baby claims it is very safe, we thought it was worth it. Additionally, our pediatrician gave us the thumbs up and said it was a good product.
Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this product. One morning when my daughter was two months old I woke up to the sound of her choking. I rushed over to her Snoo and found the swaddle straps of the Snoo sack up around her neck. I quickly unfastened the sack and it took her a few minutes to catch her breath. This is unacceptable. I’m a first time parent and this was a traumatic experience for me. What would have happened if I hadn’t heard her choking? I’m lucky that I did.
When I contacted Happiest Baby and let them know what happened, we had a bad experience with customer service. Here is their quoted response,
“Hello Ruben, We're so sorry to hear that your daughter slid down in her swaddle, and we are truly apologetic for how alarming this must have been for you. We’d want to offer you the opportunity to try out one of our beta products, which includes a diaper insert in the SNOO sack to prevent sliding. If this is something you would be interested in, we would be happy to send you a non-disclosure agreement, so we can mail you a product, completely free of charge. Please let us know if you're interested and which size SNOO Sack your daughter is currently using. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the alarm this has caused you and your entire family. We appreciate your understanding and patience. If you are a SNOO renter, we would love your feedback! Please help by taking a short survey. Happiest Wishes,”
I was appalled that they offered me a beta product after I had just had a horrible experience with the Snoo. (And apparently this beta product is to prevent issues like this from occurring, which means they must know that this can happen.) Furthermore, I expected them to ask questions such as: How old is your baby? How big is your baby (height/weight)? What size Snoo sack was she wearing? Do you have pictures or video of what happened? Has this happened before to your daughter? Does your daughter move a lot in the Snoo? (Happiest Baby didn’t ask any of these questions.) There is one detail I should mention - our daughter is a mover. She likes to kick and wriggle and we were aware of this and were certainly using the proper size Snoo sack as well as putting it on correctly.
We searched online and couldn’t find a single report of this incident occurring in other reviews. Parents/Potential Buyers, we feel it’s important for you to know what happened to our child so that you can make an informed decision before purchasing the Snoo. Please do your research and explore other (safer) options. We are grateful our daughter is okay, however would hate to hear of a child being injured or worse due to the Snoo.
UPDATE. Happiest Baby came back to us with with a better (more detailed) response about the sleep sack. However, we still wish this had not happened to our daughter.
