3 defective units... Would love to love this
The new processor gives a distinctly snappier feel to page turns and overall functionality on the new 2013 model. I also noticed that the light on this new revision by and large does away with the slightly murky and uneven lighting that plagued the bottom quarter of an inch of the original paperwhite. The incremental improvements in the software continue to move things in the right direction for the Kindle overall, and make it a very desirable reader. Why then isn't this a 5 star, instead of the 1 star rating I have it at now? The first batch has screen defects. I'm sure not all of them do, and there will be tons of happy customers out there, but I've purchased two directly from Amazon, and one from a big box retailer, and all 3 had screen defects that cause pinpricks of light shine up through the screen in one or two places. On some they were only visible from certain angles, and on some they were very immediately evident. Amazon's customer service did a decent job of replacing the first one for me, shipping out the replacement ahead of their original estimate, but by the time I got my second one from them and verified the one from a local retailer was bad as well, I had to just return the final one. I don't really have time to keep exchanging device after device until I luck out and get one that isn't defective. I'll wait two months or so and hope whatever run of these had the defects has been sold through, and cross my fingers for one without flaws. Until then, I hate not being able to have this, when I would really love to love it.
