but he wasn't totally comfortable. He is a pretty big guy at 6' ...
We purchased this shower chair about 8 months ago for my husband, who is paralyzed from the mid-chest down. While the chair worked well for the most part, there was one minor issue early on, and a major one later. The first part was the seat itself was a bit small for him, not so much that he couldn't sit in it, but he wasn't totally comfortable. He is a pretty big guy at 6' and 220lbs, but if the seat would have a bit more depth to it he would have felt much more secure in it. The second part is one of the arms just broke. Since he is paralyzed he has to use the arms to shift his weight as he gets settled into the chair. Eventually this caused enough strain on the bar that supports the arm which flips up and down to break. Again, he is not a small guy so I guess this could be understandable. However, since the weigh capacity states 330lbs, I would assume that the arms could take the strain of 220lbs shifting his weight around. Most of the shower chairs/benches out there are relatively flimsy and don't seem to last very long. They typically range in the $60-$120 range. We decided to spend a little extra on this one as it appeared to be very sturdy and could potentially solve our issues with having to buy a new shower chair every 6-12 months. Unfortunately here we are less than a year later and will once again be looking for another new chair. For someone who isn't fully paralyzed and doesn't need to use the arms as leverage to move around, this chair is probably perfect. But for a full paraplegic, unless they are quite a bit lighter than 200lbs, it is probably not ideal, especially for the price.
