This device is extremely inaccurate. I purchased one in October and my wife and I couldn't obtain a reading above 97.6. I returned it to Amazon and received another one today and we tested it with a customer service representative from Amazon on the phone. My first reading was 90.1 and my wife's reading was 96.3, my second reading was 80.7 and my wife's was 91.6. I asked the customer service agent if there were other people with the same problem, so she checked the ratings and indicated that there were more than eleven thousand reviews and many were reporting the same problem. Needless to say, I have returned both of these infrared thermometers and would "Not", under any circumstance would I recommend this product. Thankfully, we weren't utilizing the thermometer for a medical issue at the time with either of these devices. Our situation seems particular because we purchased these thermometers nearly a month apart and both came from the same company and both were deflective. What are the odds of two devices, purchased at different times would have the same problem with inaccurate readings. Thankfully the customer service representative was on the phone and requested that we check the second thermometer while she was actually assisting us. My opinion is, that this device should not be used for medical purposes to obtain an accurate diagnosis or temperature, especially in the case of an medical emergency.
