First, I'd start with a couple of positive points. For one, you get a decent amount of food for the price. Second, it includes a nice variety of entrees, vegetables, milk, and even some fruit. So why only one stars? Well, as an emergency food storage product, the thing that attracted me to this item was the manufacturer's claim of up to a 25 year shelf life. In fact, it's advertised pretty heavily throughout the product description and on the company's website. My problem with this, however, is that the only information provided by the Wise Food Company on their website reads, "Shelf life estimates are based on industry studies from sources deemed reputable". What industry studies are they referencing? They don't say. Whose are the sources? They don't say. And who deems them reputable? We have no idea based on what is provided by the manufacturer. Perhaps even worse, the 25 year shelf life is based only on estimates of other people's work- they provide no testing information of their actual products. Another reviewer nailed this on the head regarding the 'headspace' tests that have been performed, which suggested that oxygen levels within the packaging would not support a 25 year life span. Unfortunately, The Wise Company did not respond with any type of objective data to counter the results. So you, as a consumer, are left with a choice: rely on a claim by the manufacturer that offers no scientific data to back it, or rely on quantitative tests that have actually been performed. In short- If you're looking for a long term food storage option, I would think twice about this. Unless the manufacturer actually makes information available to its customers, I don't think that a claim like that can be trusted. There are other options available that do offer long term storage backed by actual testing results- research them before buying. Unfortunately, I learned of all of this after purchasing the product. My hope is that you don't end up doing the same!
