★★☆☆☆
Nice for use in house, but not for internet useage
Great for personal use but not for Weather Underground. I bought this at Costco. It took three phone calls to Acurite to set this weather station up, because so much information is not in the manual. I wanted to have the weather station information sent to Weather Underground. That worked the first day. I turned off my computer that night and the PC Connect software wouldn't function the next day. I made my fourth phone call to Acurite. They said the display unit is defective and I should pay to have it shipped to Acurite. Stop right there. I'm on the second day with this weather station and I need to pay to send it to Acurite? No! I returned it to Costco and bought another one (same model). I set it up and connected it to Weather Underground. I made numerous adjustments to my PC's USB settings so the USB ports would not go into sleep mode, and I left my computer on (and prohibited it from going into sleep mode) overnight. The next morning the new weather station won't connect to Weather Underground. Now the PC Connect software won't function unless I pull out the USB connector, and reinsert it, and then restart the software. Is internet viewing that important, to do that disconnect/reconnect/restart process every day? This weather station is great for personal use, that is, viewing the readings while you are in your house. Here are the Pros and Cons. Pros: Attractive, bright, display, with AC adapter. Five-in-one features (temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction, rainfall). Appears to be somewhat accurate, with measurements similar to other instruments I have for temperature and humidity. Easy set-up. Rainfall is shown for today and also previous time periods. Wireless. PC Connect software is not needed for person use, only for viewing instruments results on the internet. Cons: PC Connect software is impossible to keep it running correctly. PC Connect software requires the PC to be running at all times, and without sleep mode. The PC Connect software won't function unless I pull out the USB connector, and reinsert it, and then restart the software. With the PC Connect software not functioning, Weather underground and my smartphone app can't see the instrument's readings. The display has a very small viewing angle, Outside of that small angle, and the display can't be read. I have to have the display slanted downward so I can view the information on the display. If you view the display straight-on, the readings are a very light gray or can't be seen. Rating: 5 stars for attractiveness and functionality for personal use in your house. 1 star for no connection to the internet, and the need to have the computer on at all times. 2 stars is the resulting rating, for actual usefulness versus promised functionality. Buy it if you want to see the weather information in your house. Don't buy it if you want to see the weather information on the internet or you want your computer to enter sleep mode or to be tuned off occasionally. I wish the display could connect to my router so the instrument readings could be available on the internet without using my computer. Update 12/10/2014 I decided to buy the Acurite Bridge (about $80) so I could turn off my computer, and let it go to sleep during the day, and still have my weather station on the internet. I also bought a Switch (adds a "hub" to my router) from Amazon, so I could connect the new Bridge to my router (all of the Ethernet ports on my router were used). So, my weather station, plus Bridge, plus Switch, is now on-line all the time.
