Nothing Made Any Difference - Why the Struggle?
Sorry. I wanted to love this, but everything in the first 6 chapters was for nothing.
Emperor Palpatine was defeated, destroyed in the bowels of the Death Star, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
The Galactic Empire was defeated, at the hands of the rebel force, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
Han Solo aligned with Luke on the side of good, and married his sister Leia, but it didn't make any difference.
Luke was victorious, and could commune through the force with his redeemed father and Obi-Wan and Master Yoda, signalling a comeback of the Jedi order, but it didn't make any difference.
Leia learned she was heir to the Jedi, able to sense and use the force, but it didn't make any difference.
Both iterations of the Death Star were utterly destroyed, but it didn't make any difference.
The legacy of Darth Vader came to an end, but it didn't make any difference.
Instead, let's have another desert planet and another galactic empire and another master of the dark side and another Death Star and another Darth Vader and let's do the same struggle all over again, but this time let's have a woman and a black person, because, after all, they weren't treated fairly in the first 6 episodes.
And, along the way, let's make a TON of money on the fans eager for ANYthing as long as it has "Star Wars" in the title.
In my imagination, over the years, I saw many ways the story could continue, onward and upward, with Han and Leia as noble leaders, with Luke as the Master of the Jedi in a new age, with this galaxy long ago and far away spreading its influence among the stars.
But no. J. J. Abrams has shown us the future past, and it's the same old same old. The pity of it all.
