★★☆☆☆
Looks nice, but sounds awful. Only 5W peak power, and doesn't go below 120 Hz.
I don't write too many reviews, and it pains me to leave a negative review for something, but I need to be honest here. This speaker is pretty bad. This review comes from the standpoint of an audio "enthusiast," but I would not call myself an audiophile. For the size of this sound bar, I expected much better sound quality. Feeling around through the front mesh, I could tell that they used two ~2.5" drivers towards the outer edges, which is actually not too bad considering the outer dimensions are 3." But to expect any bass at all coming from this size is naive, and maybe that's where I went wrong. The product description says these will go down to 70 Hz - what a JOKE! It might do 120 Hz at best, and that's being generous. Bass and mid-bass are completely lacking, so if you intend to use these for any type of music which is supposed to have any bass, prepare to be disappointed. If you are using these purely for dialog-centric TV, you may be satisfied if you have the right expectations. I tried watching a few snippets of a movie, some TV, and some music, and everything except for dialog-centric TV was disappointing. If this soundbar cost around $40 I'd consider keeping it, but these are definitely not worth the $75 they are going for now. Have you noticed that there is no power rating listed anywhere in the description? If you shop for any speaker or amplifier, this is one of the most telling specs to look at. Well, there's a reason for this lack of information. The sound bar comes with a 5 volt, 1 amp power supply! That's 5W, peak! Compare this to a low-end $20 Lepai amplifier which give you two 20W RMS channels and you can see why I was so disappointed. I was hoping that I'd have this nice little contained package with two speakers, an amplifer, and the right inputs, but I'll be going back to looking for a small bookshelf speaker to compliment a Lepy/Lepair amp for my spare room setup. The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the unit looks fairly nice and the controls and remote work pretty well.
