TERRIBLE!!!!
I only saw the first episode of this because CBS actually showed the one episode on real television--and I was immediately grateful that the rest of this series never made it to ANY major network! (i.e., they ALL dropped it!) What's wrong? Plenty! First of all, the script sucks. The original Star Trek succeeded because Gene Roddenberry hired the best writers in the business, including Harlen Ellison. Secondly, the sets were horrendous! They looked MORE advanced than in Picard's time, which is absurd. Mike Okuda's team worked their tails off to make a realistic bridge and other sets that were true to the original series...so, why did they alter it? If it ain't broken, don't fix it! Matt Jefferies and Co. made very realistic, futuristic sets on a shoe-string budget, that (still!) look more advanced than most of the garbage the studios spend on special effects today. Finally, the writers obviously didn't even bother to keep up on their technology or see even half the episodes of Star Trek--any of the five series. The Captain of Discovery orders the computer to perform a site-to-site transport--which is UNHEARD OF back in Kirk's time! Kirk only took the risk ONCE--ONE TIME ONLY, in "Day of the Dove", and only then, because Spock did the calculations. Even then, Kirk took some chance, that he didn't materialize inside a bulkhead! Finally, there's a mutany. In the Original Series, Chekov once asked Spock, "Has there ever been a mutany on a Starship before, sir?" "Never, Ensign." (The Tholian Web.) Obviously, these guys were either taking far too much license writing this garbage, or never bothered to see even half the episodes (see comment above.) Bottom line: you can't get me to waste my time to see this series even for free...you'd have to pay ME to see it, and then my asking price is far too high. DON'T EVEN BOTHER!!!!
