I thought this feeder was a convenient way to feed the birds but keep squirrels away from the suet. I was right except for the fact that the small birds get stuck in this feeder. Yesterday I found two dead sparrows stuck in the feeder. They must have gotten their heads stuck in the grating and began to panic to the point where their necks broke. This was very upsetting. I have decided to cut one suet cake in half and place the halves into the slots rather than using a whole cake in each slot. I hope this gives the birds more room to move around. Follow up: Another bird got stuck in this feeder even though there was only half a suet cake in each slot. Fortunately, I was able to free the poor thing even though it took a long time to get the little guy out. IF YOU LIKE BIRDS DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
