This is my first Jude Deveraux read and I am so disappointed. I enjoyed the beginning story, but the fact that the male protagonist was so easily jealous and controlling, not to mention abusive, is unacceptable. Deveraux not only tries to give excuses for the male character to be unreasonably jealous and controlling, but he RAPES the female protagonist twice and punches her for TALKING to another man. Worst of all is the female's response. To try to win back his love and blame her self AFTER he is abusive. I'm a third of the way through and I am done with this book. Literature, movies and a culture that romanticizes an abusive relationship are part of the reason that I stayed in TWO abusive relationships to abusive controlling man. Shame on Jude Deveraux for perpetuating this ideal.
