Toe had to amputated.
We bought one of these kennels, a tall model with shelves for cats to jump and play on, thinking it would be perfect for housing a litter of kittens we were fostering. But at 5:00 one morning, we were awakened by the sound of horrible screeching in our living room. Our cat Scottie had gotten her toe caught in a v-shaped gap between the side panels of the kennel, near one of the upper corners of the cage, and was now dangling in midair, hanging by just one toe! She hung there in excruciating pain, her toe wedged so tightly that we could only free her by using bolt cutters to cut away the bars of the cage. Her toe was so badly damaged that it had to be AMPUTATED! It turns out that the gaps at the corners of this cage are larger than on similar cages made by other manufacturers, and the cage's poor construction makes it easy for cats to get their toes caught between the panels of the cage, resulting in just this kind of injury. This cage is dangerous for cats, kittens and other animals--and small children, who could easily get their hands or fingers pinched in this cage as well. We contacted the manufacturer, but they have refused to accept liability for the injuries caused by this "Playpen." Do yourself and your animals a favor - don't buy the Cat Playpen, or any other product from Mid-West Homes for Pets.
