I don't know if this was a bad bag or what
I don't know if this was a bad bag or what.....the first afternoon I feed this to my cat within a 1/2 hour he was making coughing/gagging noises (but not throwing up) pawing a bit at his mouth. sticking his tongue out and developed a very loud breathing pattern. All he wanted to do the rest of the evening was lay next to me, sitting up and laying back down frequently.... the while time doing this weird breathing and some drooling. I was able to look in his mouth and saw nothing that was stuck that would be upsetting him. Per a phone chat with our regular vet--- I kept a close eye on him and was ready to rush him off the Animal ER if he got any worse. About six hours later, he seemed a bit more comfy and I decided to re-evaluate in the morning.
The next three days I fed him only canned food, thinking maybe he had a cold or something and the canned food would go down easier. He was absolutely fine...no breathing/coughing issues what so ever.
On the fourth day, I gave in to his relentless display of "starving drama" and gave him a bowl of this dry food. Again, within a short period of time he develop the same weird breathing/noise/discomfort symptoms and I realized that it must have been the food both times. By the next day he was fine again and my nerves were frazzled. I definitely won't be trying this a third time. He is back to eating a different brand of dry food and we have had no issues at all. **might I add he is a full time indoor cat so there was no outside food source that could be considered.
I decided since I now had this full bag of food that I couldn't use.....I gave it to my neighbor who could feed it to a few strays that hang around the neighborhood. Three threw up while still eating their portions but two others chowed down, finished and seemed absolutely fine at that point and even later in the day when she checked on them. The rest of the bag has now been thrown away as maybe it just isn't for all cats ...there seems to be some irritant that effects some but not others. Lesson learned for $20.00
