Just Stick with the Original Cut of Deadpool 2
Once Upon a Deadpool is basically the made-for-tv cut of Deadpool 2 with seven or eight minutes of additional footage (10 at the very most). So if you go in expecting a Deadpool 2.5 type movie, you’re gonna be disappointed. Now, I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy myself at all while watching the additional footage, but I don’t think it warrants the watch. And believe me when I say that this is the made-for-tv cut. Virtually every scene was re-edited, re-dubbed and recut, and it’s not exactly done all that well. I think the editing would’ve confused me in some scenes had I not seen the original R-rated cut of Deadpool 2. In addition, some of the re-dubbing was lazy in some places. At one point they just flat out bleeped out some of the swear words. Finally, my biggest problem with Once Upon a Deadpool is that this PG-13 version just does not work. There are some movies that *need* an R-rating in order for the movie to work, and the Deadpool movies are prime examples of this. For instance, try to imagine how pointless a PG-13 cut of Pulp Fiction would be. The first Deadpool was very important in proving to studios that R-rated blockbuster movies can be very successful and make money, and Once Upon a Deadpool goes against all of that. You’re basically neutering what was once a very entertaining film deserving of an R rating simply for some extra money. As it says in the review title, just stick with the original theatrical cut of Deadpool 2. While the extra footage is admittedly rather amusing, you’re not particularly missing anything by not watching Once Upon a Deadpool and you’d probably be better off just skipping it.
