Bad Fan Fiction
This is not an adaption. This is poorly written fan fiction. Rafe has taken Jordan's world and rewritten the story. It's a retelling of the wheel. We wanted a live-action version of Jordan's books, not a live-action version of Rafe's idea of what Jordan's books should have been like. It's hard to believe that Sanderson and Jordan's wife signed off on this garbage. Maybe they didn't have a choice.
If I could give this a zero I would. So much has gone astray. I keep reading about how adaptions have to make changes to fit in content because of time and budget constraints. But if that is the case, then why create new scenes that were not in the book to begin with. In episode one, the writers had a coming of age scene for Egwene, Reds tracking down male channelers, Morianne and Lan in a bathtub, Rand and Egwene having sex. That time could have been used for the prologue with Lews Therin and Ishamael, Tam's fever dream where he reveals Rand's birth, the meeting between the council, Fain and Morainne. If there are too many characters for viewers to keep track of, then why add ones that were not there, or give minors ones focus - Perrin's nonexistent wife, a non existent warder and Aes Sedai and Logain (who is a minor character throughout the series).
There has been very little talk about ta'veren, the pattern and the powers. We have one dream sequence with all the major characters with the forsaken. No mention of the Eye in any of them. Suian has a dream about the Eye, but she's not a dreamer. This totally ruins Egwene being the first real dream in centuries. The Eye is not the dark one's prison and Morianne would know this. There cannot be more than one dragon and the dragon cannot be a woman. That completely contradicts the lore. If a dragon can be a woman, problem solved. Just get right to resealing up the dark one. Lolial is a joke. The waygate wasn't even explained.
The main characters are undeveloped and weak. Perrin didn't need a wife to establish his abhorrence and struggle with violence. Rand is a footnote at this point. Mat is supposed to be a trickster, not a degenerate. They have spent more time developing side characters that they forgot about the Emond's fielders. Liandrin, Aniya, an Aes Sedai that was never in the book. Morianne is not the main focus in book one. She's not a POV character yet. Suian has no role in book one. How are Morianne and Suian supposed to develop relationships with Thom and Gareth (two major characters) if they have their own romance? So many unnecessary scenes that add nothing to the story to the point it isn't even a WoT story anymore.
