Basically this toy is the same as buying a child's ice cream maker type toy only it is in the shape and comes out like a McFlurry. Other than the mix, the only things you need are half and half (1 cup per mix package), ice and table salt. The toys is not fun because my 6 or 8 year old could not turn the crank to mix it without help. There is a little arm that goes down into the ice/salt mixture and churns that and it is hard to turn it particularly at first. The size cup that is provided is about the size of a small or medium drink from McD's and one mix package filled this cup up about 1/3 of the way. It was also difficult for my 6/8 year olds to use the plunger to dispense the McFlurry. I suppose it could have a tiny bit of educational value if the parent explained the reason for the ice salt/mixture but other than that I don't really see any. The product itself is durable. It doesn't seem like anything would break and nothing did when we used it. My kids were disappointed and said that they would have had just as much fun with less aggravation had we just bought a 1/2 gallon of ice cream.
