Warranty service is AWFUL. Lock gearbox is faulty.
02-20-2023 Update Eufy app uses a tremendous amount of energy, whereas apps from their competitors do not. It is always active instead of waiting for a trigger and displaying a notification. The massive battery life issue, lack of innovation, in addition to their security failures has made me avoid them and start investigating alternatives. If you're still interested in them, just make sure the features you want are actually supported and not a future upgrade, as it will most likely never be added. --------------------------- CONS: Recent hardware revision (Rev S) has caused the fingerprint reader to be slower and requires more than one attempt to unlock. App has pop up ads, which is incredibly stupid and annoying. There is no way to turn them off. Major app annoyance: When receiving a notification, any custom name you set for the device will not appear in your notifications. They will only be displayed within the app. I have mentioned it to the company using the feedback option within the app, but not holding my breath, since they continue to mess up the location of the battery level. Only a few pieces are made with actual metal, whereas most parts are made with potmetal, i.e. lock gears and frame. I'm familiar with material science and gears shouldn't strip within a year, unless the material or tolerances are poor. Update: 4/7/2022: Replacement lock received and installed. Model is revision S. Inital observation is that wifi reception is weaker the the original (lock was placed in front of the wireless router and took 7 tries before it displayed the access point name). The locking action is much faster and stronger than the original (I'm assuming they identified the gearbox defect inherent in mine and potentially resolved it with a new motor and gearbox). Update: 3/29/2022: What sense does it make to require that the broken lock be returned before a replacement is shipped??? Though they are making a 'one time exception' for me (ridiculous). Eufy / Anker seems to have a poor grasp on warranty and customer service. Update 3/28/2022: eufy sent a deadbolt hardware kit which did NOT resolve the grinding issue that is internal to the lock itself. Warranty service initially requested a video of the issue occuring and then sent a part that did not resolve the issue. Not helpful at all when in the video, you can distinctly hear that the gearbox is grinding and jamming at certain points. I hope that I will receive a replacement lock eventually. Update 3/19/2022: Gears are jamming / not moving smoothly when manually turning the deadbolt knob. Either the gears are worn or out of alignment and causing the mechanism to get stuck. Not a good sign for future reliability. Will be reaching out to support again for resolution and will update when I know more. It's a good thing it started to fail now, as the 1 year warranty expires in April. Regarding the battery life issue, the issue has been resolved. I reached out to support and was informed that they released a defective firmware update that is causing the battery drain and wifi disconnections. They will update your locks with a beta version firmware upon request. Though it might be standard now and require you to manually check for a firmware update. I should have contacted support earlier, but also disappointed that they allowed the issue to exist for so long, necessitating that I open a support case. Update 12/6/2021: Battery dies within a month and requires frequent recharging. WiFi connection drops often and I assume it and the auto lock feature are what is contributing to the battery life issue (the battery pack could also be defective). Will reach out to support to request a replacement battery or lock. Not sure if the WiFi issue is due to bad hardware or a bad firmware update. Three stars, for: -Needing improved instructions. I was not able to find a digital copy on their site (would have preferred to find answers to questions before purchase). In addition, the battery cover on mine was stuck and there were no clear removal instruction in the manual -Weak motor -No replacement batteries available for purchase -The battery gauge should be beside the lock name in the Eufy app. You have to click the lock and load it before you are able to see the remaining charge in the battery. Not sure it is accurate. Received it today, installed in 10 mins. While the directions could be A LOT better, getting it connected and registering fingerprints was quick and easy (except for the one time the app froze while starting the fingerprint process). I charged the battery after I was done, as it would be more efficient. It took less than 2 hours to charge the pack to full. If your current deadbolt binds a little against the lockplate or wood jamb, you will want to file that down, as the motor is really weak and will not move due to the added resistance. I really wish I could have picked up a spare battery pack or they had allowed for a AA cartridge. I'd feel a lot better being able to pop in a replacement battery if there was ever an issue. I still haven't been able to get anyone to explain how to receive the free battery pack offer on the eufy site. When registering your fingerprint, the numbers on the pad will light up to show you where you are in the process / how many times you have pressed the pad. Useful, if you can't hear the voice prompts. Also, the option exists to disable sound effects, which is good, because I find them annoying. The app prompted me to install a firmware update and it took less than 3 minutes (the app estimated the install time). Not bad. The update did not resolve the defect with the auto lock function. The auto lock function does not activate on time, when set for the listed interval. While the keys look funny, but they're not much different than normal pin and tumbler lock, so while you won't be able to copy them at the local hardware store, a locksmith can pick the lock if you ever require it. I do wonder if this unit is the same as the no name brands being sold for half price? There are quite a few that bear a striking resemblance to this unit. Not sure this unit is worth $240 retail. We'll see if it lasts and how reliable it is. If it works well, I plan on replacing all of my exterior locks with them.
