Apparently doesn't trap "light" mice.
I bought two of these traps and placed them out for a few days with no luck capturing any mice. This morning I walked into my bathroom to wash and shave and found a small mouse in my bathtub. I closed the shower door, and then tried to figure out what to do. I didn't want to kill it, but I didn't know how I could remove it. Finally, I went downstairs, retrieved the two traps that had been set out previously and placed them both in the bathtub. I realized that the mouse couldn't escape from the bathtub as it was unable to climb the slippery walls. Anyway, I went downstairs to have breakfast and thought I'd leave the mouse there while I went to work and hope it would enter the trap. When I went back into the bathroom, however, I was pleased to see the mouse was already in the trap. Great, I thought. Problem solved. All I have to do is drive the mouse somewhere and release it. Then I noticed that the trap door was still open. The mouse was all the way in the trap, but the door hadn't been actuated by its small weight. I tried to hit the door to make it pop closed but it wouldn't move. I kept trying until, finally, the mouse just walked back out of the trap back into the bathtub. Ultimately, I emptied a small, plastic box that had some small tomatoes in it, dropped it on top of the mouse, and, somehow got the top closed underneath the mouse. Then, I made a mad dash out of the house, running for a block or so, and then released it. Very upsetting, when I realized I hadn't had the foresight to at least put on a pair of gloves. Had the mouse gnawed through the package it might've bitten me and I would have been forced to visit the emergency room.
I know most of the humane traps are of a similar design, but I cannot recommend these traps, as the door mechanism proved faulty and unreliable.
