Recessed buttons were a deal breaker
This review doesn't have "Verified Purchase" next to it because I bought this case under my dad's Amazon account instead of mine, on accident.
(Refer to photos I've posted)
MATERIAL and THICKNESS:
The white inner sleeve is a thin, flexible, rubbery material. The outer case is firm, smooth, and slightly slippery. I wouldn't consider the overall case to be a slim fit design, but it isn't bulky. It is also NOT an "ultra thin" or "air" case that retains the same thickness of the phone. I wanted something that will add moderate protection to my phone without feeling bulky -- this case does just that.
PROTECTION:
The lip provides protection for the screen and the case prevents the camera from jutting out. The bottom of the phone is not entirely exposed; there are cutouts for the headphone jack, lightning port, and speakers. There are also cutouts for the power and volume buttons and the mute switch instead of being covered, like the Maxboost one.
-- I REALLY, REALLY love that there's a white sleeve for the iPhone to fit in before sliding it into the outer case. This prevents color transfer and scratches from the actual case itself (both of which I unfortunately experienced with the Maxboost case). This is my favorite part of this sliding case.
COLOR:
The color provided by Spigen is a little off and the actual case isn't as light mint as it is in the photo. It is still a mint color though. The gold is the exact same gold as the Maxboost case. It's slightly darker than the gold iPhone 6, but it blends in really nicely with each other. The sleeve underneath is white.
PUTTING IT TOGETHER:
This is a THREE part case. You first put your iPhone into the white sleeve, then you slide the phone into the mint part of the case, then you slide in the gold part. Again, I love that there is a sleeve between the actual case and the phone because this case involves sliding your expensive and brand new iPhone!
CONS:
- All of the buttons are SO recessed and it makes it difficult to access "normally." Accessing the volume buttons are the WORST.
- The gold part is supposed to fit perfectly into the mint part, but it doesn't (no matter how hard I push). There's the slightest gap. I don't know if I got a lemon or if this is how it is. However, the phone is still fully protected and there's no way the gold part will fall off on its own, so it's purely a cosmetic issue.
UPDATE 9/30/14:
I used this case for 2 full days and I just can't use it anymore. It's so unfortunate because the case looks gorgeous and it's the only phone that has the white sleeve to prevent color transfer and scratches. I had to dock a star because even though it looks good, it just isn't practical for me.
- The buttons on my phone were a NIGHTMARE to access. This was the absolute DEAL BREAKER. I just can't.
- Phone was way more slippery than I initially thought. I've almost dropped my phone so many times because there isn't a good grip on the case. I wouldn't return it for only this reason though. If it weren't for the difficulty accessing the buttons, I wouldn't return this at all.
