A nonsense, self-important, self-victimization diatribe....
Welp, I saw the trailer for this and thought, I need to read it before I see it, as always. Don't waste your time. I'm all for speaking and writing about the complex emotions that come with motherhood. The ups, the downs, how women lose themselves in the most difficult job in the world, being a mom. The regrets that might be there. Things women wish they had done differently. The humanness of it all. THIS...was not that. This was an account of an emotionally and mentally distant and abusive mother who sees herself as the victim of the children SHE CHOSE TO HAVE. My heart bled for her daughters throughout this book. Not every main character has to be a sympathetic figure. Certainly not. But if you want your audience to hang in with the story, you can't have your main character be preciously insufferable. I was bored to tears by the main character's whining nature and fragile ego. Yeah, this one was not for me.
