Two Months sober...and I want my life back :(
STEP ONE: Admitting I have a problem
Hi. My name is Beth, and I was a GoW addict. After three years, thousands of dollars and PTSD, I am changing my five star review, to a one star review. Why has it taken me so long to realize that my life was slowly being drained from me? Because, like any addict, I thought I was in control. And when I finally realized that the game controlled me, it was still hard to walk away...because I'd invested so much time and money. I feel stupid. I feel angry. I cannot get those three years back. Even having been told by dozens of veteran players that this game had ruined their life, had caused them to consider suicide, had been their most regretted decision in life...it still took me hitting rock bottom to see the truth behind their warnings.
While some may think I'm being dramatic, or that its my fault for having an addictive personality, all I can say, is: Had there been as many reviews warning me back when I started playing, then maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't have lost so much of my life to a game no different than narcotic drugs. Having actually kicked a drug addiction many years prior, I can honestly say that GoW is in every way as destructive as the next drug. The game made me feel needed and important, and I honestly felt like I was involved in something big...all the while, my two children were growing up in the other room while I clicked away at my device.
Do not get caught up in this game...I beg of you. Learn from me, and the thousands of others who realized too late that a game isn't worth your family, your friends or your bank account. It isn't worth your self respect. Please read the one star reviews carefully. Look for a review written by someone called Trapeze, which was once listed as the number one most helpful, before MZ deliberately had it pushed down until near impossible to find. Notice how the real five star reviews (the five star reviews that simply say "great game" are fake) will admit that the game is both expensive and addictive.
Also, don't listen to any positive reviews that are recent. Keep in mind that my first review of this game, was five stars. Like any addiction, you're blind to the negative affects at first.
I'm sure it's a joke to many, that a game had so much power over my life...but if my review can deter just ONE person from downloading this game, than I've accomplished something important..more important than anything I've done in my three years as a GoW addict. So laugh as you will. I will not come out of this empty handed, if at least one of you heeds my warning.
To the friends who left the game before me: I'm sorry I didn't understand your reasons for having left. And I'm sorry I hadn't been supportive of what you were going through.
To the friends who continue to play: I hope you find the courage to walk away from this game soon. I know of hundreds who refuse to quit for the same reasons I did..but know that getting your life back is a far greater reward than staying, waiting for a return on an investment long wasted.
