This printer has an expiration date...and it's called ink absorber pads.
This printer was wonderful UNTIL we discovered Canon's sneaky money gouging scheme.
There are these things called ink absorber pads or waste ink pads and they are located inside the printer in the bottom tray. Their job is to collect ink and absorb it when you do a cleaning/overspill etc. The problem is eventually these will fill up and be able to absorb no more...and your printer will throw an error code and stop printing. So just change the pads right? NOPE. You can't.
You can get them out of the printer with ease, and you could insert new ones also with ease, but THEY DO NOT SELL THEM ANYWHERE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
Canon's customer support solution was to just buy a new printer. They don't sell the pads and you can't repair the machine. Even though the machine itself works perfectly.
There is an override online, which is a series of button presses to clear the code, but it does not FIX the problem. It band aids it temporarily until it starts spewing ink all over your paper and filling the machine with waste ink that has no where to go....the absorbers are still full remember?
Absolute b.s. A simple part like this should be available for simple home maintenance. But I suppose they had to come up with a way to counter the money lost on selling all those ink cartridges. "Let's just fool the consumer about this great economical refillable printer by putting in an unobtainable, yet easy to fix, part so they have to throw the whole machine away and buy a new one." So. Economical.
I have MANY canon products (pro photog) and I absolutely will not be buying anything Canon again.
